The 2016 REU program is funded by the NSF and designed to bring together undergraduate students from different universities to work together on research projects. At the end of the ten week program, each project group prepares a poster, a research paper, and a final presentation.

Faculty mentors:

*      Dr. Yi Shang is a Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies of the Computer Science Department. He has extensive research experience on wireless sensor networks, mobile computing, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics, and has published over 160 journal and conference papers and holds 6 patents. His research has been supported by NSF, NIH, US Army, DARPA, Microsoft Research, and Raytheon. He is a life member of ACM and senior member of IEEE. http://people.cs.missouri.edu/~shangy/.

*      Dr. Wenjun (Kevin) Zeng is a Professor in the Computer Science Department. He has published extensively and made significant contributions to the fields of wireless multimedia communications and networking, content and network security, and content analysis. He has also made significant contributions to the development of international standards, including JPEG2000 and MPEG4 IPMP. His research has been supported by NSF, DoD, DoE, Microsoft Research, Thomson Research, and Huawei Technologies. He is a Fellow of IEEE. http://people.cs.missouri.edu/~zengw/.

*      Dr. Marjorie Skubic is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Director of the MU Center for Eldercare and Rehabilitation Technology (CERT), with projects funded by the NSF, NIH, AHRQ, the U.S. Administration on Aging, (www.eldertech.missouri.edu). The current work of CERT is focused on monitoring older adults through a network of sensors placed in the home including PIR motion sensors, a bed sensor that captures pulse, respiration, and sleep restlessness, and gait analysis systems using Kinect depth cameras, webcams, and radar. *      Dr. Prasad Calyam is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department. He has extensive research experience in computer and network virtualization, multimedia applications, and network performance measurement/monitoring. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed publications in reputed conferences and journals, as well as open-source software packages. *      Dr. Jane Howland is a Teaching Professor in the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies. She leads the evaluation of this REU project.
